Portrait of the beloved and contagiously joyous Jaime The Maestro Emeric -
Cancer fighter, Vieques born Nuyorican Poet, elder, mentor, domino lover, Latin music fanatic, fellow Bronx history buff, supporter of the arts. His portrait is comprised of graffiti- esque tag motifs, congas, palm trees, urban skyline, dominoes “flamboyan” tree from Puerto Rico, sun of “Jayuya” petroglyph, my attempt was to capture a cultural Rican urban cultural core that I felt represented Jaime. Among the many details in his portrait is an inscription of the Bronx motto “No Cede Malis” which is Latin for “Yield Not To Evil”. Keep fighting the good fight brother!

Portrait of Kanoena ( @bxwahie ) from the Bronx. I was commissioned by Kanoena to create a pinup. Not sure what concept she hand in mind, on a fluke, she was consuming a Hawaiian beverage called “Aloha Maid”. A light bulb went off and requested that I create a Hawaiian inspired pinup called “Aloha Made” as homage to her roots and homeland. Her is the result.

While in North Vegas, I paid a visit to my dad’s friends, Irma & Rudy, Bronx born teenage lovebirds who have been married for 62 years (both in their 80’s) who moved to Vegas. They are huge supporters of the arts and have a house full of amazing Pinups artworks. Here are some of their vintage Bronx photos, and a current photo I snapped today. They are so awesome.

Before and after Marilyn Monroe transformation pinup portrait for @keyla83 from The Bronx #NewYork.
Keyla is a Bronx native with an obsession for all things Apple & Marilyn Monroe. As a tender profession of love to his wife, Keyla’s photographer hubby @benjaminbrui secretly commissioned me to create a portrait of her. Im not sure if he was aware that I would transform her into MM, however I am always up for a challenge and wanted the art to have lots of meaning for her.
This portrait was is deceptively simple. Since Marilyn is such an over the top icon, I had to come correct as I created 4-5 variations just to get it right. The process and editing took quite a while. The trickiest part for me was her hair. You would think after making hundreds of pinup portraits that it would be a breeze for me, however due to Marilyn’s hairline and unique head shape, placing a typical MM hairdo on someone else doesn’t necessarily mean it would fit that person, let alone a pretty red headed Keyla. MM also had 5 -7 hairstyles adding to the challenge to figure out which complimented on Keyla’s face best. I’m please with the result. For a complex image, I purposely kept the color palette minimal. There is lots of meaning in the art however I wont spoil it, as each person’s interpretations of art are uniquely there own. Message me if you are ready to be transformed. me@riceandbeanz.net
